Discuss a moment or turning point in your life that led you to your career path:

During my 2nd year of college, I was performing a scene from Hamlet in one of my acting classes and something happened in the middle of the performance which I can only describe as a “golden” moment. I was completely in tune with the character and my entire focus and being was in the scene. I wasn’t thinking about the lines, they were just coming from my heart and mind. I felt a golden light shining from my body. I wasn’t acting, I was living. When the scene ended, the nod of approval and smile from my acting professor, Lisa Wilson ( who was and still is the best acting teacher I have had ) , made me realize THAT is real acting. I saw acting at that moment more than just entertainment and a hobby, but a craft that I could hone and pursue professionally.

Please discuss a role model that motivated you or mentor you had that helped guide you:

My father and mother. I have never met two people who have worked harder to make a better life for their children. The life lessons I learned at our family restaurant were foundational for my career. The tenacity and work ethic that I developed because of my parents is priceless and I thank God daily for having them both in this lifetime.

Do you recall any specific challenges you encountered and overcame?

Nothing specific BUT the challenge in maintaining daily discipline for maintaining my craft and accomplishing my personal and business goals for the day is critical. Laziness is a silent killer of craft, business, and eventually personal life. It must held back. That being said, time for rest is also critical but one must have a keen sense of awareness of when Rest is needed and when Rest has fulfilled its goal.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?

Train. Train daily. Then train some more. Be cunning. Be respectful but don’t be a push over.  Ask yourself, “Why am I pursuing a career as an actor?” What is your motivation for being in this field. If it’s not a good motivation, you will have great difficulty maintaining course during the hard times; which is most of the time for many actors. Don’t be afraid to learn other cross disciplines: Directing, writing, producing, etc. These other paths are crucial for you to understand.

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

God willing, I would like to see myself professionally as a series lead and producing other tv shows at the same time.

Tell us a little bit about your hobbies outside of your field:

Love to trail run on hiking trails and mountains before dawn. Love to do hot yoga. Love having great/hilarious/deep talks on my podcast with strangers, friends, and family. Love to be of service to my community in any way I can provide.

A Q&A form will be uploaded shortly. In the meantime feel free to send any questions you would like to ask Wesam to admin@network1017.com
